North and South Carolina (October 5th through October 26th)

After we left Virginia Beach, we headed toward Outer Banks, North Carolina.  Since it was a long drive, we stopped at a Harvest Host called Morris Farm in Barco, NC. The next day, we drove to the Outer Banks where we stayed for three nights at a park near Cape Hatteras Lighthouse.  There isn't a lot to do or see in the area, so we spent a lot of time on the beach. While searching for our next stop, we decided to commit to the Thousand Trails program which is a network of RV resorts that will allow you to stay at any of their sites nationwide for about $700 a year.  A majority of their sites are in Florida, and since we are spending most of December in the Tampa Bay area, we knew it would pay for itself quickly.  We found two sites outside Emerald Isle, NC; we loved the area so much we stayed for eight nights. West Virginia and Virginia (September 24th through October 4th)

We made plans to go out with friends in Richmond, Virginia the weekend of September 30th, so we spent the next week making our way from Kentucky.  Our first night, we found St. Albans Roadside Park outside of Charleston, West Virginia.  Even though the site was right on the river, had full hook-up and FREE, we decided to only stay one night.  When we thought it couldn't get better, we were treated to an awesome sunset. The next day, we drove to Stony Fork Campground outside of Wytheville, VA.  The campground was situated in Jefferson National Forest and only cost $12 a night for water/electric.  Fall was in the air as the weather dipped below 80, and the leaves were just starting to turn.  Since the weather was so nice, and the temperature was ideal, we decided to stay two nights. The next night, we made an overnight stop in Roanoke.  There were no RV parks nearby, so we called Camping World as most RV dealerships have slots available for overnight stays.  They sugges

Kentucky (September 19th through September 23rd)

After Burlington, we stayed at Big Bone Lick State Park for three nights. While there, we visited Lexington, KY and did a mini pub crawl. Our next destination was to Red River Gorge in the middle of the Daniel Boone National Forest.  We stayed at Natural Bridge Campground in Slade, KY and enjoyed three days of amazing hiking.
