North and South Carolina (October 5th through October 26th)
After we left Virginia Beach, we headed toward Outer Banks, North Carolina. Since it was a long drive, we stopped at a Harvest Host called Morris Farm in Barco, NC. The next day, we drove to the Outer Banks where we stayed for three nights at a park near Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. There isn't a lot to do or see in the area, so we spent a lot of time on the beach. While searching for our next stop, we decided to commit to the Thousand Trails program which is a network of RV resorts that will allow you to stay at any of their sites nationwide for about $700 a year. A majority of their sites are in Florida, and since we are spending most of December in the Tampa Bay area, we knew it would pay for itself quickly. We found two sites outside Emerald Isle, NC; we loved the area so much we stayed for eight nights. While in Emerald Isle, we visited Beaufort, NC (sorry, no photos) and Jacksonville, NC.
