North and South Carolina (October 5th through October 26th)

After we left Virginia Beach, we headed toward Outer Banks, North Carolina.  Since it was a long drive, we stopped at a Harvest Host called Morris Farm in Barco, NC.

The next day, we drove to the Outer Banks where we stayed for three nights at a park near Cape Hatteras Lighthouse.  There isn't a lot to do or see in the area, so we spent a lot of time on the beach.

While searching for our next stop, we decided to commit to the Thousand Trails program which is a network of RV resorts that will allow you to stay at any of their sites nationwide for about $700 a year.  A majority of their sites are in Florida, and since we are spending most of December in the Tampa Bay area, we knew it would pay for itself quickly.  We found two sites outside Emerald Isle, NC; we loved the area so much we stayed for eight nights.

While in Emerald Isle, we visited Beaufort, NC (sorry, no photos) and Jacksonville, NC.  We spent almost every day at the beach. The most notable thing we did was go to Mullet Festival in Swansboro. Much to my disappointment, it was named for the fish and not the hairstyle.

After Emerald Isle, we went south down the coast to Pirateland RV Park in Myrtle Beach, SC.  We stayed about 100 yds from the ocean and could hear the waves crashing at night. We spent most of our days on the beach, but ventured out to the strip.

After Myrtle Beach, we drove to Charleston, SC where we stayed at Lake Aire RV Park.  The park is about 30 minutes outside of the city, which made for an easy commute to historic downtown.  We spent 45 minutes trying to park the monster truck downtown, and we finally succeeded only to feed the meter all of our quarters!  I walked to a nearby florist and after almost an hour, we were ready to sightsee.  We had dinner and drinks at Bay Street Biergarten and walked through the cobblestone streets at dusk.

The next day, we decided to Uber into the city. We did enjoy a carriage ride through downtown.  All the passengers were happy that Lambeau sat quietly in my lap the whole time.  As always, I spent most of the day enjoying the sites instead of taking photos.  Trust me, Charleston is an awesome city to explore and photos would not have done it justice anyway!
