Central Maine (Monday, August 6th through Thursday, August 10th)

When we were in Pennsylvania, a fellow traveler told us to go to Moosehead Lake which is the largest lake in Maine.  Since we are traveling for a whole year, we take advantage of free camping when possible.  We found a fellow-RVer named Kathy on Boondockers Welcome, and she offered us a free place to stay in Brownville, Maine which served as a great hub for exploring central Maine.

On Tuesday, we drove to Greenville, Maine to see Moosehead Lake.  We did not take a lot of photos, but you can see the charm of the area.  While there, we went for a nice walk at Lily Bay State Park. When we stopped for our daily ice cream fix, a nice gentleman gave us a map of the area, and we found a waterfall hike to Wilson's Falls on our way home. We enjoyed a two mile hike along the creek to a small waterfall.








The next day, it was raining sideways, so we decided to go to Bangor, Maine (about an hour from Brownville) for laundry and other chores.  I randomly remembered that Stephen King had a house in Bangor, and we found it without any issues.  While we were standing there, Mr. King came out for a run! After our chores, we went to Mason's Brewing Company along the Penobscot River and enjoyed a couple stouts.  





The next day, we went to Millinocket, Maine and toured downtown and a dam outside of town.  We found a make-shift trail and Lambeau was able to have some off-leash time.  We went home early and took our host, Kathy, to dinner at a local pizza place as she was kind enough to let us stay four nights.  We exchanged stories about traveling and took note of all her advice.

Introduction

For those who do not know my husband-to-be, Kristopher and I (Danielle), we met at work in July 2015.  He moved to Salt Lake City in late-August, and we started seeing each other soon after his arrival.  Fast forward to March 2017, and we were engaged in Hawaii.  Shortly thereafter, we decided to ditch Suburbia and two well-paying jobs for an unconventional lifestyle.  For the next year, we will be traveling with our dog across North America in a truck hauling a fifth wheel. To add to the insanity of taking a year off work, we decided to sell our Salt Lake City home .  Before we can begin our adventure, we have to pick-up our chariot (2017 GMC Sierra 3500HD Denali Dually) from his parents' house  to haul our home-on-wheels (Forest River Cardinal 3350RL) from Ponchatoula, LA.  We then have to secure our belongings with my parents in East Tennessee .  We depart UT on Friday, June 30th. Ohio Bound (September 4th through 9th)

After fleeing Somerset Airfield, we headed west and ended up outside Binghamton, NY were we spent two nights at Chenango State Park. We are meeting some old friends of mine in Grove City, OH (outside Columbus) on Friday, so we had a series of jumps to break up the nine hour drive.  After setting up camp, Kristopher, Lambeau and I drove to Binghamton for drinks and dinner.  Since it was Labor Day, most places were closed, but we had drinks at Belmar and Indian food from Taj Tandoor.  We both ate way too much food, so we went for a walk in what we thought was downtown Binghamton.  Turns out it was the rougher part of town, but we left unscathed. One of our first stops on the trip was an organic dairy farm where we purchased grass-fed beef.  Their products were so amazing and well-priced, we wanted to restock our freezer. The Journey

As I mentioned in the last post, we have spent the last two weeks packing our belongings to move them from Salt Lake City, UT to Mosheim, Tennessee. We departed SLC on June 30th and stayed in Limon, Colorado that night. To our luck, they gave us the shittiest truck on the lot- no cd or auxillary, the loud-ass motor was under the passenger's side and it had two bucket seats.  None of this made for a good ride with a 22 pound dog in your lap in July.  Wyoming is the worst state to drive in, especially when you're new to driving a moving truck with a car dolly attached. With wind gusts of 25+ mph, we had to keep it at a steady 60 mph.  Traffic in Denver was even more nerve-wracking, and we were relieved to get to the hotel at 1am.  Lambeau wasn't thrilled with the seating arrangement or the cabin noise, but he adjusted and slept about 20 hours that day.
